Introduction to Kalkan

One of Turkey's most upscale resorts, Kalkan has quickly emerged as the top destination for vacations in private villas and apartments. In addition to having a wonderful selection of top-notch restaurants, a beautiful harbor, and charming streets, this charming Mediterranean town is also conveniently close to Kas, Kaputas Beach, Patara (with its 12-kilometer stretch of golden beach), and several sites of historical interest.

Although Kalkan is a popular tourist destination, the twisting streets lined with bougainvillea and the classic homes built in the Ottoman architecture makes it very authentic. Even more beautiful at night, when restaurants on roof terraces with candlelight gaze out over the mosque's luminous white dome and the little harbor filled with gulets.

Another interesting fact about Kalkan is the popularity it has around tourists from UK. It has been a secret little place known to a few people in the 90s who bought land and houses back in the days then with the power of word of mouth, it became a place where British can’t get enough of. What makes it different than any other touristy seaside towns is the views it has to offer and the unique places like shops, restaurants, the hospitality and the hassle-free feeling it has to offer. Kalkan like other parts never lost it’s authenticity and the great weather, the turquoise waters and it’s people attract loads of British each year.

While Kalkan itself may be a small haven of refinement and sophistication, traditional parts of Turkey you might want to experience is easily accessible. Traveling up into the hills to Islamlar where you can have breakfast at many traditional restaurants, shaded eateries constructed above a trout stream, which included tomatoes and olives, bread and honey, and a sizzling pan of eggs and cheese all locally sourced and delicious.

Overall, Kalkan is a magical experience making everyone come back for years and years and maybe even move their life there. And there is definitely a reason for it that you will understand once you step into this heaven.
